Today in the Newry area there are families struggling to put food on the table. For people on low incomes a sudden crisis, redundancy, benefit delay or even an unexpected bill can mean going hungry. Every day parents skip meals to feed their children and people are forced to choose between paying the rent and eating
Newry Christian Centre has partnered with the Trussell Trust Network to bring a Foodbank to the Newry community. Our Foodbank provides emergency food and support to local people in crisis. We collect, sort, store, and pack food donated by individuals, supermarkets, schools, businesses and churches, then take it back to our distribution centre where it is made up into parcels for clients.
We partner with many of the local support agencies such as doctors, social workers, PIPS, citizens advice, welfare officers, Simon community amongst many others who identify people in crisis and issues them with food vouchers. Clients then bring their food voucher to our Foodbank centre where it can be exchanged for three days supply of food.
If you feel like you are in need of, or would like to help with the emergency supplies, please contact us.
